Martina Ashby, a Junior at Ursuline Academy of Dallas, will be presenting her paper “The Frivolity of Heroes and Villains” at the 2017 Frankenstein Colloquium

Martina Ashby, Class of 2018
Martina Ashby is currently a Junior at Ursuline Academy of Dallas. She enjoys art, participating in her school's theatre productions, and serving as an officer in an elementary school tutoring program. She will also soon begin a new role as co-Communications Editor for Ursuline's literary magazine "Essie." Martina is an active member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and la Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica. She has drawn upon her passion for creative writing and appreciation for engaging with and questioning conventional ideas to write her paper "The Frivolity of Heroes and Villains." In this paper she explores the unrealistic and constraining labels of hero and villain and instead appeals to the ambiguity of morality and the biased perception of truth. Martina thanks Oakridge for this wonderful opportunity to share her work and hopes to continue pursuing creative opportunities in the future.

Martina will be reading her paper “The Frivolity of Heroes and Villains” during the 2nd block in Session H, called “Monsters, Heroes, and Anti-Heroes.”  The session will take place on the Skybridge on the 2nd floor, starting at 10:30am.
